Hello [NAME], and welcome to the 7th Edition of the SOHO IT Solutions
Newsletter.
Today
we'd like to share with you a a few noteworthy downloads from Microsoft.
Here are the three programs along with their descriptions from
Microsoft.
I
will include hyperlinks to them but just in case the links do not work
just go to http://microsoft.com click on
downloads on the left side
and
do a search for each. So here we go on to the programs.
1. Windows®
Defender
Brief
Description ( from the Microsoft website )
Windows
Defender is a free program that helps you stay productive by protecting
your computer
against
pop-ups, slow performance and security threats caused by spyware and
other potentially
unwanted
software. Windows Defender no longer supports Windows 2000 as
mainstream support ended in June 2005
Supported Operating Systems: Windows
Server 2003 Service Pack 1; Windows XP Service Pack 2
Our description: This is an anti spyware program
to help protect your pc from phishing
scams and
malware. This application has been
around for a while as a beta program and is is now officially released.

"LICENSE: Free, No strings attached."
System Requirements
- Supported Operating Systems: Windows
2000 Service Pack 3; Windows Vista; Windows XP
- The following is also required:
- Microsoft
.NET Framework 2.0
Our description: This is poised to be a direct
competitor for Quickbooks. This
application has also been around for a while
as a beta program and is is now officially released. This is
a huge 338MB download so users on dial-up may want
to find a friend with broadband to get this application. We have no
personal experience with this application so please try it and
give us some feedback. But with most account packages starting around
$140.00 and up we would sure give this a try as the price is right!
We will be installing and reviewing this application sometime in the
near future but your feedback is welcome.
3. Internet Explorer 7
Internet Explorer 7 provides improved navigation through tabbed
browsing, Web search right from the toolbar,
advanced printing, easy discovery, and reading and subscription to RSS
feeds. Internet Explorer 7 provides
security through a robust new architecture, security features that help
defend against malicious software
(also known as malware), and new ways to better protect against the
theft of personal data from fraudulent
Web sites, a practice known as phishing. Internet Explorer 7 has
improved support for cascading style sheets,
a rich RSS feeds platform, and robust tools for deploying and managing
Internet Explorer 7 in large enterprise environments.
System requirements
Supported Operating Systems: Windows
Server 2003 Service Pack 1; Windows XP Service Pack 2
Our description: IE7 is a step in the right
direction as the description implies. We have tried it in beta and its
initial final release
and liked its new features, that we have become accustomed
to in Firefox. I would recommend this for home users where
compatibilities
are usually not an issue but would not yet recommend it for a
larger corporate environment where compatibilities could be an issue.
One, notable request that could cause issue is Microsoft asks that
users briefly disable antivirus protection. There have been some
conflicts between IE 7 installations and some antivirus engines, so to
err on the safe side, the Microsoft asks that you disable your
antivirus protection until the installation is complete. This could
cause some issues with home and corporate users.
We hope you enjoyed this issue of the
