Hello [NAME], and welcome to the 4th Edition of the SOHO IT Solutions
Newsletter.
OpenOffice.org
The new OpenOffice 2.0 is out. What this
mean to us in the Linux world in my opinion is this.
The real new feature (was kind of available but not apparent,
databases) OO base will be the application to take away the MS monoply.
While OpenOffice already was a great alternative to
Microsoft's Office Suite the addition of Version 2,
BASE
enables you to manipulate database data seamlessly within
OpenOffice.org.
As soon as developers get the new release and start to develop open
source database applications for the SOHO (Small Office Home Office)
Desktop Linux users. This will shake things up a bit and provide what I
think has been one of the most critical applications Linux was missing
for the SOHO Desktop users. Now, I know databases in Linux have been
around for a while to some degree in various forms that may not have
been apparent to the new Linux user. Now it is there in Open Source
form staring you right in the face and begging for you to use. This I
believe will open up a lot of things for Linux developers to create
applications to run small business. When this happens users will
migrate in droves to the Linux Desktop!. Cheers to Sun and all the Open
Source developers who made this all possible. My hat goes off to all of
you.
Most of what I had to say was for Linux users but our fellow Windows
users should not discount this awsome Office Suite application. Give it
a whirl!
In our next issue we will cover a great application for free
SSH (SSH1,SSH2,SFTP), WebDAV, FTP, FTPS Client for Windows
.
We hope you enjoyed this issue of the
